A Fair Day Out 2021
2021 was the 9th year that A Fair Day Out has been planned by Equity Works. Our 8th year was cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions but we made up for it with the best attended A Fair Day Out ever in 2021! The event took place at Eumundi Markets on Saturday 9th of October.
The usual favourite features were there, better than ever. Stalls were dotted around the A Fair Day Out zone. Performers were on stage throughout the day. Free art and craft activities to have fun with and the delicious sausage sizzle from early in the day!
More than 25 stalls were hosted by or with people with disabilities selling the results of their creative enterprises. The Eumundi Markets motto of Make it, Bake it, Sew it, Grow was in strong evidence with the diverse products available on the day. It was exciting to welcome new stallholders who offered everything from home décor items, jewellery, plants, sustainable bags, pet play products, baked goods through to original art. Shopping local for Christmas gifts was definitely happening on the day.
Nine performing groups made sure the amphitheatre stage was jumping from early in the morning to 2pm. From well established A Fair Day Out favourites through to a number of first time acts (on the AFDO stage), over 80 people participated in performances of song, dance, and a little martial arts thrown in.
A Fair Day Out is a day with a one item agenda - FUN! It is a great day to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Busy lifestyles mean that sometimes we don't get time to get together and enjoy each other's company and for the last long while, gathering together has just not been possible. It was easy to see the joy that the opportunity to come together and connect brought to everyone who attended. We have lots of great photos from the day, really worthwhile having a look at the albums on the A Fair Day Out Facebook page.
A Fair Day Out is a much loved event that Equity Works is proud to lead and host. We could not bring this event to reality without the support of many people; the stallholders and their supporters, the performers and their supporters, our staff who volunteer on the day and their supporters (you can see a theme!). We also deeply appreciate the people who come along for a little while or for the whole day to participate in A Fair Day Out, each one of you is an important and valued part of this event that creates and celebrates inclusive communities.
Other community groups are important supporters of the event with in-kind, financial, and logistic support. We respect and appreciate their support, including the Sunshine Coast Council, I love Eumundi Markets, Eumundi Trading, The Original Eumundi Markets, Nambour RSL, and Hedley and Capo for their stage management support each year. We have close relationships with a number of disability service community organisations who always lend a helping hand in promoting the event and supporting people to attend, particularly Spiral and Parent to Parent Qld who are long term partners in the event.
2022 will be the 10th year and we are already thinking about ways to make the event extra special for this anniversary!
